Simpson School 1892 - 1905
Baldur’s First School District was called the
Simpson School District,
Est 1892. IN 1893 the first Simpson School was constructed. In 1905 the
Second Simpson School was opened. In 1915 the name changed to Baldur
School District. Previous to this the school at Hnausa Mb (North of
Gimli) had been called Baldur.

Wolsley SD # 305 (16-5-13)
The school was first called Otenaw, with the first
building being a log
structure on SE 16-5-33 owned by George and Bernie Playfair.
Wolsley School was built in 1906 and
used until 1942.

First School on NE 7-5-14 burned in 1899 and
replaced 1900.
According to The Come into our Heritage”, “The first school built in
this district was the Tiger Hills School on the McDonald Homestead, in
1833. This school was situated two or three miles to the southwest of
present day Baldur. The first teacher was Mrs. Jesse Chester,...”

Welsh SD #1002, 1899 - 1966
Welsh
School – built 1949
First school built 1900
This building was moved to Baldur in 1969 to house a new kindergarten
class.

Wigton SD, 1882 – 1959, (6-4-13)
This building, the third Wigton School,(1956) was moved to
Glenora and attached to the school there.
The first Wigton School was built in 1882 was a log building built by
W. MacCorquadale, Sheffield, Bell and Huffman.
The first teacher was

Second School – 1892 – Stucco added in 1920 and again in 1936. Open to
the public by appointment.

River SD. # 339, 1885 – 1958, NW 22-4-12
Building survived and was re-used as part of house after closure.

Building still on its original site.
25. Excelsior SD. # 449 (1883-1959)
Originally Ball Duff School in home of Mike Babington S 28-4-13. Closed
as unfit by Dept. of Education
New building re-named Excelsior, 1885 26-4-13.
1897 New School on SE 21-4-1326.
