Resources:   Pioneer Schools in The R.M. of Argyle 1. Baldur SD. 1891   Simpson School 1892 - 1905 Baldur’s First School District was called the Simpson School District, Est 1892. IN 1893 the first Simpson School was constructed. In 1905 the Second Simpson School was opened. In 1915 the name changed to Baldur School District. Previous to this the school at Hnausa Mb (North of Gimli) had been called Baldur. 2. Wolsley SD # 305 (16-5-13) The school was first called Otenaw, with the first building being a log structure on SE 16-5-33 owned by George and Bernie Playfair. Wolsley School was built in 1906 and used until 1942. 3. Thor SD. # 1430, 1908 – 1959, (28-5-13) 4. Bru SD. # 368 (ca. 1887 – 1959) First building SE 16-6-13 Moved 1897 SW 11-6-13 Replaced 1921 5. Cypress Valley SD. # 394, 1885 – 1958 First School N 24-6-13 1885 Moved to NE 24-6-13 about 1890 2nd School ca. 1898 same site Burned 1909 and rebuilt 1910. 6. Oliver SD #1766, 1915 – 1949, (21-6-13)   7. Frey SD. # 890, 1897 – 1946, (24-6-14) 8. Hecla SD. #355 (1884 1959) Original Hecla School (1884) on 16-6-14. Original school sold in 1897 – new one built on 21-6-14 16. Connaught SD. # 1630, 1912 – 1965, (33-3-14)   9. Mimir SD. # 891 (1897 – 1959) 10. Hola SD. # 889, 1897 1960, (1-6-14) Hola School had a four-team stable. 11. Antonius SD. # 2127, 1926 – 1959, (22-5-14) 1926   12. Tiger Hills SD. #335 (1891 – 1959)   First School on  NE 7-5-14 burned in 1899 and replaced 1900. According to The Come into our Heritage”, “The first school built in this district was the Tiger Hills School on the McDonald Homestead, in 1833. This school was situated two or three miles to the southwest of present day Baldur. The first teacher was Mrs. Jesse Chester,...” 13. Welsh SD #1002, 1899 - 1966 Welsh School – built 1949 First school built 1900 This building was moved to Baldur in 1969 to house a new kindergarten class. 14. Hamlin SD. # 1790 (1915 - 1950’s)   15. Rosehill SD. #90, 1882 – 1960 16-4-14. Second School built 1905 View the  Rosehill School Photo Album   17. Roseberry Sd. # 429, 1887, (SW 33-3-14) 1907 – School Moved to Neelin Neelin School 18. Wigton SD, 1882 – 1959, (6-4-13) This building, the third Wigton School,(1956)  was moved to Glenora and attached to the school there. The first Wigton School was built in 1882 was a log building built by W. MacCorquadale, Sheffield, Bell and Huffman. The first teacher was Mr. Babbington 19. Glenora SD  #736 (1892) This School built in1947. Addition (Former Wigton School) added 1959. Original Glenora School (See P. 43 ”Gleanings From the Past”) Second  School - 1912 (See P. 44 ”Gleanings From the Past” (1892 – NE 27-3-13) 20. Original Glenora School Site (Cairn) Building burned in 1910. 21. Marringhurst SD. # 231 (1882 – 1967) First school a log building 1882 Second School – 1892 – Stucco added in 1920 and again in 1936. Open to the public by appointment. 22. Zephyr SD #1384 (NW 7-4-12)   Zephyr School – built 1906 23. Dry River SD. # 339, 1885 – 1958,  NW 22-4-12 Building survived and was re-used as part of house after closure. 24. Greenway SD. # 1898 – 1960 Building still on its original site. 25. Excelsior SD. # 449 (1883-1959)   Originally Ball Duff School in home of Mike Babington S 28-4-13. Closed as unfit by Dept. of Education New building re-named Excelsior, 1885 26-4-13. 1897 New School on SE 21-4-1326. 26. Huff SD. #948 1898 - 1960 First School 1898 – SW 31-4-13. – built by Jacob Huffman
