Description
|
The
Cook’s Electric Building is located centrally in a row of
brick-fronted
buildings, most constructed in the 1890’s, that line the south
side of Nelson
Street, west of Seventh Avenue at the heart of Virden’s Heritage
District. |
Heritage
Value
|
The
Cook’s Electric Building is valued as a substantial
commercial structure
and its connection to a Music and Books Store and Piano Dealership
operated
by Ed Boggs in the early twentieth century. Such enterprises set
Virden
apart from surrounding smaller towns in that era of sustained growth
before
the First World War. Later refitted for less glamorous use as an
electrical
supply store, it retains the elegant tin ceiling as a reminder of its
original
purpose.
