Historian, lawyer.
Born at Vancouver, British Columbia in 1944, he completed high school at Midland Collegiate - Carman then came to United College (now the University of Winnipeg) to proceed with Honours work in History. He received a BA (Honours) degree in May 1966 then worked as a graduate assistant to William Lewis Morton. He was awarded a Woodrow Wilson National Foundation Fellowship to proceed with graduate work in Western Canadian History at the University of British Columbia.
He later practiced law at Duncan, British Columbia with the firm of McCarthy, Ridgeway, McCutcheon, Lawson.
