James Collus “Jim” McCrae

Court reporter, MLA (1986-1988), MLA (1988-1990), MLA (1990-1995), MLA (1995-1999).

Born at Vancouver, British Columbia on 19 September 1948, he moved to Brandon at an early age and graduated from the Vincent Massey High School. He worked as a court report for a number of years before serving on the Brandon city council (1984-1985). Elected to the Manitoba Legislative Assembly at the 1986 general election, he was re-elected in the 1988, 1990, and 1995 elections. He served as Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs (1988-1989), Minister of Co-operative Development (1988-1989), Minister of Justice and Attorney General (1990-1993), Minister of Health (1993-1997), Minister of Environment (1997-1999), Government House Leader (1997-1999), and Minister of Education and Training (1999). He was defeated in the 1999 general election. He later returned for another term on the Brandon city council (2006-2013).
