Richard Arnold Dow

Educator.

Born in November 1942, youngest of three sons of Roy Arnold Dow (1912-1987) and Eleanor Vera “Nell” McArthur (1921-2000), he attended Waskada School and received teacher training at Brandon. He was the teaching Principal of Wellwood School (1965-1967) and Libau School (1968-1971). In 1970, he was living at Selkirk when he received a BA degree from the University of Manitoba. Later, he was Vice-Principal and guidance counsellor at the Killarney Collegiate for ten years.

On 1 August 1964, he married Lois Margaret McCallum at St. Paul's United Church in Boissevain. They had two sons and two daughters.

In 1988, he was charged with sexual and indecent assault relating to incidents with students that occurred between 1977 and 1984. His teaching certificate was revoked. He was subsequently convicted of two charges and spent 22 months in jail.
