Manitoba Business: McGaw-Dwyer Elevator Company / Dwyer Elevator Company

This Winnipeg-based company was formed in October 1917, taking over the business of the McGaw Grain and Lumsden Elevator Company. Its officers were William Ernest McGaw (President and General Manager), W. H. Dwyer (Vice-President of the W. H. Dwyer Company at Ottawa, H. D. Dwyer (Montreal), Irving De Lamater (Fort William), Henry Ritz (Gretna), J. J. Stevenson (Richlea, Saskatchewan), Otto Ritz (Winnipeg), N. T. Barker (Treasurer), and O. Ritz (Secretary). Its purpose was to do general grain and elevator business.

Initially, the company purchased nine grain elevators and built one more, bringing its total complement to ten. One of its elevators came from the H. R. Soot Grain Company that was in the process of being closed at the time. Its only Manitoba elevator was at Erickson (1918-c1922); the rest were in Saskatchewan. In 1920, it became the Dwyer Elevator Company.

In 1928, twelve of the company's elevators were sold Parrish and Heimbecker, some went to Saskatchewan Pool and a few were burned or dismantled.
