Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative seeks members

2 January 2007

The Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative, which operates radio station CJNU 104.7 FM, is seeking members.

The Cooperative operates with a special events broadcast license issued by Industry Canada. Under the terms of the license, each broadcast is two to four weeks long and is in support of a non-profit event or organization. Broadcasts are paid for with the assistance of sponsors. The Cooperative plans on having ten to twelve broadcasts during the year.

How the Cooperative works:

  • It is an incorporated non-profit cooperative. This means they do not issue shares. Members pay a membership fee to join, and every member has one vote - all are equal.
  • The cooperative is regulated by the Financial Institutions Act of Manitoba and its own bylaws. Members vote on the adoption of bylaws and any amendments thereto.
  • As a community service cooperative, any surpluses not required for ongoing operations are given to registered charities and/or other non-profit community service cooperatives.
  • At an annual general meeting, members elect a Board of Directors to manage ongoing affairs. The Board is responsible to the members.

Cooperative member receive:

  • A certificate of membership suitable for framing
  • A wallet-size membership card
  • Regular news updates on the progress and happenings of the cooperative and CJNU
  • A vote at all members' meetings
  • An invitation to all special events
