Frequently Asked Questions: History of Manitoba Town Names

A source of information on the history of Manitoba town names is:

Geographical Names of Manitoba, published in 2002 by Manitoba Conservation

Copies of this excellent soft-cover book are available in local libraries and bookstores. In addition to giving some details on the basis for town names, it also contains the basis for names of other landmarks, including some 4,000 lakes, islands, bays and other geographical features named after Manitoba's war veterans.
