Minmar

In the early thirties McCabe Grain Company built an elevator at Minmar, four miles east of Minto, approximately half way between Minto and Margaret - hence the name. We are listing some of the grain buyers:

Wallace Mills
Hope Turner
Ross McDonald
C. Sands
Ralph Law
E. McKee
1. Ferguson

A very busy spot in harvest time was Min-Mar Siding. Not long after the C.N.R. right of way was established, a group of farmers, who held land North and south of the track, and midway between Minto and Margaret, decided to apply for a siding with a platform for loading box cars. After much negotiation and added influential assistance from the current M.L.A., Honorable Jas. Johnson; Minmar was officially approved.

The site selected was at a point mid-way on the McMillan home half section. Loading grain from the platform continued for a number of years until Paul Schreiner rigged up a grain blower on the front of a Fordson tractor. Harold Smith was hired as operator and an excellent service for a nominal fee per bushel was provided.

In the early "thirties" an elevator was built that operated as a viable unit until hauling by truck diverted grain deliveries to other points.
