Historian.
Born at Toronto, Ontario on 12 July 1922, he attended high school in St. John, New Brunswick. He received BA and MA degrees from the University of British Columbia and a PhD degree from the University of Toronto. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941 to 1944 with the rank of Lieutenant. Dr. Waite was associated with Dalhousie University since 1951 in which year he was appointed lecturer of history. In 1955 he was appointed Assistant Professor of History, in 1960 Associate Professor and in 1961 Professor of History.
He was the author of a number of books on Canadian history including Life and Times of Confederation, Confederation Debates in the Province of Canada, and Canada: Arduous Destiny, part of the McClelland and Stewart centennial series. In 1976, he wrote a book on Sir John A. Macdonald and was invited to speak at the annual Macdonald Dinner of the Manitoba Historical Society. He was married, had two children, and resided in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He died at Halifax at 24 August 2020.
