The St. Demetrius Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church at Gardenton has served the Ukrainian community in south eastern Manitoba for well over 100 years. Although founded formally in 1904, the congregation has ledgers in its possession dating back to 1893 and some even earlier entries. Unfortunately, the founding members did not register the church with the provincial government, thereby depriving the church of its rightful title as “the oldest Ukrainian Orthodox church in Manitoba”. The current congregation aims to keep the church building in good shape and possibly do minor renovations.
An MHS Centennial Organization Award was presented by Jacqueline Friesen on 16 April 2004.
