When the City of Thompson was established in 1956, a curling club was established in a two-sheet natural-ice rink situated in an uninsulated, corrugated steel building. The club's name was based on Thompson's proximity to the Burntwood River. It affiliated with the Manitoba Curling Association in 1960. The club presently occupies a six-sheet rink, built in 1978, that is attached to the Thompson Regional Community Centre.
